The Council of State De Raad van State overruled the objections neighbours made against the construction. Thus opening the way for construction in the north-western corner of the terrain along the Ritzema Bosweg. The plot has been derelict for years.
The 80 homes that are to be constructed are the first -and smallest- step in the construction that is to cover the entire former campus. The second stage consists of the construction of no less than 550 homes where the former chemistry building stands, which is currently being used as student housing. Plans for that stage are still being designed. The construction that will now commence comprises various types of privately owned homes, social housing and a courtyard.

The houses will be constructed on soil rich in WUR history. The Ritzema Boshuis once stood here (Tropical Crop Farming) and the Dreijenborch (Agricultural Family and Consumer Sciences). These buildings were torn down in 2009 and 2008, respectively. Plans to construct housing failed for various reasons.
Traffic
Neighbours protested against the current plan, which was ratified in the council two years ago in April. They argue that the municipality should not be permitted to develop the two plans separately without first achieving clarity on how the traffic situation in the area will be organised. The Council of State overruled this argument.
Students currently living in the existing buildings on the campus will not be affected by the construction at this time.
