WKvV takes on role of union

The Wageningen Chamber of Associations (WKvV) has ambitions to become a union.

Wageningen has lacked an active student union in recent years. That may soon change: the WKvV (consultative body of the ten Wageningen student associations) is considering joining the National Student Union LSVb.

Thus states Christel Konings, the WKvV’s current chair. ‘We have been taking on union tasks in recent years. We have, for instance, set up the local campaign against the slow student fine, we are involved in Wageningen Student Life (the club which campaigns for new/alternative clubs and meeting spots on the campus to compensate for the flat pubs closing, Ed.), and we are part of the Travellers Association Consumer Interests in Public Transport, where we campaign for better access to Wageningen and the campus at a provincial level.

Since Student Alliance Wageningen failed to find a new board in the 2021-2022 academic year, Wageningen has lacked an active student union. ‘Perhaps this town is too small for a union’, says Konings. ‘But if one of our board members is able to take on the job, and it works? Who knows? Perhaps we may consider founding a real student union in the future.’

The WKvV has the option to become a prospective member of the LSVb as of the beginning of March, says Konings.  ‘Our board has five positions, and we really must find a new board to take on this new task successfully. That is what we are working on.’
