The police investigation into the assault at the start of April is ongoing. In an effort to identify the suspects, the police will divulge footage from surveillance cameras in the television programme Plaats Delict (crime scene) this Thursday. ‘We hope that witnesses will step forward’, a spokesperson says.

The assault took place on Friday evening, 5 April, between ten and eleven p.m. in front of the Forum building. The victim, a PhD student from China, was cycling near Forum when he was suddenly attacked by a group of youths. He sustained injuries that required medical attention and was taken to the hospital for treatment after the incident.

The attack prompted a group of international students to write a letter to the university and municipality, in which they stated that intimidation at the hands of ‘local youths’ occurs regularly. In such incidents, students are pelted with stones and eggs, verbally abused or suffer other forms of aggression and undesired behaviour.

Plaats Delict is broadcast by Omroep Gelderland on Thursday evening, June 6, at 17:15 hrs and repeated at fifteen past the hour each hour until midnight.

On Monday 17 June from 4.30 to 6 pm, an information meeting about the physical safety of (international) students, PhD candidates and staff on and around Wageningen Campus will be organised at WUR. Click here for more info.
