A group of four students dressed in white coats held a pro-Palestine protest this afternoon. They started in Forum and visited both Impulse and Atlas. They want WUR to cut ties with Israeli universities and industry partners.
The group brought Palestinian flags and some wore traditional Palestinian headscarves. They chanted ‘WUR is complicit in genocide’ and ‘Palestine will never die’.
The activists wore white, blood-stained jackets. Their hands also had blood on them. Before leaving Atlas, they smeared the red substance on the statue of Ceres standing in Atlas’ atrium, some walls and on the glass of the entrance, among others.
‘We encourage students to form an opinion and you are allowed to let it be heard, but destroying other people’s belongings is a step too far. We are looking at where we can put the bill for the cleaning costs’, WUR spokesman Jan Willem Bol says. WUR disapproves of the behavior but for the time being will not press charges against the activists. Bol: ‘This action does not change the university’s position on this issue.’
