The MME master was rated high by students, but the programme was considered too broad. As of the next academic year, it will be replaced by five specialisation masters.
The new masters, Sustainable Business and Innovation; Supply Chain Analytics; Consumer Studies; Economics of Sustainability en Governance of Sustainability Transformations, all focus strongly on sustainability. That was also the case in the MME programme, says study advisor Sietse Sterrenburg. ‘But this was not always recognised from the outside. I already see more interest in the new programme than there was in the old programme in recent years. Whether this will be reflected in the enrolment numbers remains to be seen in September, but I am hopeful.’
Nice and clear
According to Sterrenburg, most MME students want in-depth knowledge of the discipline. He is happy with the new masters. ‘We already had independent specialisations within MME with minimal overlap. These specialisations were more or less uncomfortably pushed under a single umbrella. That is why I feel splitting them up is a good idea.’
The division also makes it easier for students to detail what precisely they have studied, says Sterrenburg. ‘In practice, most students were already listing their specialisation on the LinkedIn profile because this was clearer than the overarching name MME. As far as I’m concerned, this is a win-win-win.’
