It can be quite a challenge for new students to find their way around Wageningen. How do you get to Wageningen by public transport? And where are the classrooms? Welcome to Wageningen answers these and many other questions. The app is indispensable for international students in particular. For example, there is a short film with information about the train journey from Schiphol. And you can get rector magnificus Martin Kropff on your screen explaining ‘how to pronounce “Wageningen”’. The app also provides information about health care, the Dutch and their customs. To summarize, it introduces students step by step to life on campus.
Other apps are now also under development. The Publicity and Recruitment department has come up with WURpp as part of the continuing effort to attract more students. The idea is that Wageningen students will supply photos and other content. In return for performing tasks, they will be able to earn points, which they can then exchange for gadgets. Of course the purpose of the content is to show schoolchildren and others what student life is like at Wageningen. The launch of WURpp is scheduled for early September. We are interested to see how it will work. NM
More useful apps:
AID Wageningen. A ‘must have’ for every AID participant, with the latest news, your personal programme and all the info you might need. You can also set up push messaging to get the most important news straight away.
Available PC. Developed by the Student Council in the previous academic year. If you need a computer, the app tells you which ones are available on campus. Useful if you want to work on a report.
Sports Centre de Bongerd. Courses at the sports centre often get fully booked in no time. In the past you had to be glued to the PC to make sure you enrolled on time but this app makes things a lot easier. You can also view the fitness schedule and reserve squash courts.
Statistical Support WUR. Statistics feature in every Wageningen degree programme. A lecturer developed this app to help students choose the right test for a particular problem. Really useful if you are lost for a solution.
Campus. If you have an appointment in Triton but have no idea where that building is or have forgotten where to find Huub Savelkoul, then the Campus app will help. It can locate all the people and buildings on campus, including the route to get there.
