The British charity says Lambooij has made a significant contribution to the improvement of slaughter methods with his research. The prize was presented at the end of June during a conference on animal welfare in York in England.
Attacked
In 2011, Lambooij made the national media with his research on the welfare aspects of ritual slaughter without stunning. He was attacked at the time by Jewish and Muslim organizations as he showed that animals do suffer during ritual slaughter without stunning. He is now retired.
