House of Representatives wants Me Too lessons during the introduction weeks

WUR focused on the issue during the 2022 AID and will ‘certainly do so again’ this year.

Students should be taught about sexually transgressive behaviour during their introduction, says the House of Representatives. And employees must also attend courses.

This is confirmed by the vast majority of votes in favour, with which a PvdA motion was carried on Tuesday. The motion calls on the government to explore ‘how the education of students and employees on sexually transgressive behaviour can be embedded in the introduction weeks and the curricula of all higher education institutes.’

The motion refers to the example set by Maastricht University, where first-year students are educated on sexually transgressive behaviour during their introduction weeks. The motion calls this ‘crucial in determining behavioural standards.’

Attention in Wageningen

During the last AID, WUR focused on social safety and (sexually) transgressive behaviour, for example, through an escape room and by launching the Social SafeTEA-initiative. This year’s introduction will most certainly include this topic, says Lisa Ngyen of the Student Service Center – details will follow as they become available.
