The first copy was handed to future board chair Louise Fresco on Monday 17 March. Besides witnessing the launch of the translation, the audience also had an opportunity chance to shudder at the sight of a terrarium full of grasshoppers, and of course to taste a range of insect snacks. These were prepared by Henk van Gurp, teacher at the Rijn-Ijssel catering college, who was responsible for the book’s culinary content.
The big question is whether the wider world needs any convincing. Back in September, the Wageningen researchers published a report on behalf of the world food organization FAO. It was immediately downloaded one million times. That is worth celebrating with a few insect snacks.
