In its very first election, the party came in fourth in Wageningen, with no less than 8 per cent of the votes. More than PvdA, to name just an example, which received 7.3 per cent, CDA (5.9 per cent), PVV (5.1 per cent) and SP (4.8 per cent).
The Partij voor de Dieren also gained (from 4.4 to 6.0 per cent) in Wageningen, and settles in the sub-top. VOLT did well on campus. At the voting station in Forum, VOLT came in third after D66 and GroenLinks.
Surrender
It was the established parties that surrendered votes to VOLT. Even D66, which did well in the national election, suffered a minor loss in Wageningen. However, with 23.2 per cent of the votes, D66 remained the largest party, followed by GroenLinks with 14.1 per cent. GroenLinks lost a quarter of its constituency. The VVD came in third in Wageningen, with 12.8 per cent, down one per cent.
Forum
Of the smaller parties, Forum voor Democratie doubled its constituency in Wageningen from 1.1 to 2.5 per cent. Of the new parties, only JA21 (1.4 per cent) and BIJ1 (1.2) scored over 1 per cent. A total of 24,471 voters cast their ballot, a turnout of 85.5 per cent—a little more than the 84.6 per cent of four years ago.
