Pro-life activists removed from campus

Activists more frequently target university campuses.
The organisation behind the protest, Civitas Christiana, was targeted in in the satirical TV show ‘Even tot hier’ (‘This is where we draw the line’, ed.) last Saturday.

A group of anti-abortion activists handed out flyers on the campus on Tuesday afternoon around the Forum building. WUR was not notified ahead of time. They have been ordered to leave. After some protest, they vacated the campus. The police, which had been called, did not need to take action.

‘The campus is open to the general public, but it is private property. Demonstrations and handing out flyers is prohibited unless permission is granted ahead of time’, says spokesperson Jan Willem Bol. He did not venture to say whether such a request would have been approved. Several students and employees were appalled by the action.

Bol says the protestors in question represent Civitas Christiana. This group faced a judge last week in a preliminary injunction filed by the Rutgers Stichting, which accused Civitas Christiana of spreading lies and defamations about the Week van de Lentekriebels (a week-long focus on sex education in Dutch schools, ed.). The ultra-conservative catholic group’s modus operandi was denounced last Saturday on the satirical TC show Even tot Hier, through the book ‘Lentegriezels‘.

Pro-life protestors were sighted on Campus Plaza earlier, in front of the Albert Heijn. They have been focusing on university campuses more frequently. For example, Utrecht and Nijmegen last fall.
