Movember is held in November to raise awareness for men’s health, for example, by growing a moustache and raising funds for charity. Rowing association Argo has contributed for several years now by organising activities such as the Moustacht rowing competition. This year, they are the official Movember student ambassador, and they have invited KSV Franciscus, JV Unitas and SSR-W to join.
Argonaut Morris Koetse: ‘All clubs join the activities in their own way. Unitas will organise a Movember evening with bands and fundraising. Franciscus has an open party where the income from the sale of snacks will go towards Movember, and a fraternity at SSR-W is actively engaged. The Monday dinners have been elaborated for Movember.
Rowing association Argo is to organise the Moustacht, a rowing competition between teams of eight (moustached) and a helmsman, for the third consecutive year on Saturday 30 November. The Moustacht took place for the first time in 2022. At the time, two teams competed. In 2023, there were twelve teams. ‘This year, we reached out to all student rowing clubs in the Netherlands and invited them to join’, Koetse says. ‘We expect around twelve teams, but we will see.’
Additionally, the Wageningen clubs have created a special long sleeve to raise awareness and money for Movember.
Charity
Wageningen student associations frequently contribute to charity. Argo raised some four thousand euros for KWF and collected relief supplies for Ukraine. KSV Franciscus organises their annual Francerious Request, a radio marathon for local charities, from 22 to 24 November. WSV Ceres frequently works to raise funds for ALS research.
