Just before the start of the new academic year, you have a last partying opportunity this weekend in the Torckpark. There, the Valley Festival’s first edition will take place, offering live music, DJs, and food from different cuisines around the globe.

The festival is being organised by WagaStorm, who were also present during the AID closing festival and responsible for the main stage during recent Liberation Day celebrations on 5 May. ‘We aim to bring all of Wageningen together with this festival’, Robert van Middendorp-Lentjes of WagaStorm says. ‘So, we have a diverse programme, including a Sudanese band, Mo & Kush Acoustic, and De Gang van Zaken from Nijmegen. But we also have various DJs such as Joseph Steel, who performs in Club NYX in Amsterdam frequently, and Menno de Boer of Slam FM. He will be accompanied by Reggy B, one of the Drag Race Holland participants.’ In addition to music, there will be entertainment throughout the day, such as drag performers, a mini wine terrace, a six-metre-high climbing tower, and face painting for everyone, adults included.’

‘We see the Valley Festival as a way to celebrate society’, Middendorp explains. ‘That may sound idealistic, but our organisation has been working on diversity and inclusion for many years, and there is still room for improvement in that department in Wageningen. Despite the fact that there are 116 nationalities represented in Wageningen, discrimination still occurs, and there is quite a rift between Wageningen natives and students. So, that is pretty much what this festival aims for; let’s get together and demonstrate that we can make a difference.’
